SONG 90 Encourage One Another

Learn From the “God Who Can Give Comfort in Any Kindna Situation”

“Because God na comfort us, we able to comfort other people.”—2 COR. 1:4.

WHAT THE MAIN POINT?

We will learn how Jehovah can comfort people and how other people na follow his example. This one will help us to know how to comfort each other.

1. Why we mon comfort other people?

ALL of us can go through different-different problem. So sometime we need people to comfort us. (1 Pet. 1:6) When we going through problem, we can be happy when other people comfort us. So we too mon be quick to comfort other people when they going through problem. (Matt. 7:12) Jehovah, “the God who can give comfort in any kindna situation,” show us how to “comfort other people who going through any kindna problem.” And we can follow his example when we “comfort each other.” (2 Cor. 1:3, 4; 1 Thess. 4:18) We can comfort our brother and sister dem because we love them and not because we force to do it. In this article, we will learn (1) what the word “comfort” mean in the Bible, (2) how we can comfort people and (3) wetin we mon do when we need comfort.

WHAT THE WORD “COMFORT” MEAN IN THE BIBLE?

2. In the Bible, what comfort mean?

2 In the Bible, the Greek word they use for “comfort” get different-different meaning depending on the situation. For example, it can mean to say something to somebody da will make them feel better or to encourage the person to do something. (Rom. 12:8) The direct translation for the Greek word they use for comfort mean to stand near somebody to help them. So it just like somebody coming quick-quick to help their friend who suffering. The person can use different-different ways to comfort their friend. But they mon always try their best so the person they comforting can feel better.

3. Wetin we can learn from Barnabas example? (Also see the picture.)

3 Let look at one example in the Bible. One Christian name Joseph use to always comfort and help other people. Because of da, the apostle dem started calling him Barnabas, which mean “somebody who can encourage other people.” (Acts 4:36) Da name they give him really match him. And because of da, the Bible not call him Joseph again. The Bible tell us da most of the time, Barnabas use to help his brother and sister dem when they wor in need. For example, right after Saul become Christian, he go to Jerusalem to see the Christian dem da wor there. But they wor scare of him because he use to persecute the brother and sister dem before. But Barnabas wor not scare of Saul. He wor kind to Saul and he help him to know the other brother and sister dem.—Acts 9:26-28.

Barnabas wor kind to Saul and he bringing him to meet some of the apostles in one of them house. The apostle dem looking at Saul some kindna way.

Barnabas wor kind to Saul and he help him to know the other brother and sister dem (See paragraph 3)

HOW WE CAN COMFORT OTHER PEOPLE?

4. What one of the best way we can comfort other people? (Romans 1:11, 12)

4 If it possible, try to visit them. Jehovah can use his servant dem to comfort other people. For example, the time Elijah wor feeling discourage, Jehovah use one angel to encourage him. (1 Ki. 19:4-7) The apostle Paul also wanted to visit the brother and sister dem so da they can encourage each other. (Read Romans 1:11, 12.) When you go visit somebody, try to spend enough time with them so you can comfort them. (1 Cor. 16:7) If you not able to go visit them, you can still comfort them by calling them or sending them text message. You want allow Jehovah to use you to comfort other people?

5. Why it can be hard sometime to comfort our brother and sister dem?

5 Life in this last days will continue to get hard. And because of da, sometime it will be hard for us to visit our brother and sister dem to comfort them. We can learn from Onesiphorus example who wor living in Ephesus. When Paul wor in jail in Rome, Onesiphorus wanted to comfort Paul. So he go look for Paul even though he knew da when they catch him, they wor coming put him in jail or kill him. (2 Tim. 1:16-18) Da the same way our brother and sister dem in Russia can comfort each other when they going through persecution. When they carry one of them to court, other brother and sister dem can go there to encourage them. They can go there, even though they know da it possible da they can put them in jail too. Wetin you can do to prepare yourself to comfort your brother and sister dem? Maybe you can study about how God servant dem way back and today, comfort each other and wetin they do to stay happy even though they go through persecution.

6. How we can follow Jehovah example when we comforting other people? (Also see the picture.)

6 Listen to them. When the prophet Elijah wor feeling da they coming kill him, he pray to Jehovah and tell him everything da wor in his heart. Jehovah knew Elijah situation and he knew da Elijah wor feeling scary. But our loving God still listen to Elijah good-good the time he wor talking. And Jehovah continue to listen to Elijah even though he wor saying the same thing over and over! (1 Ki. 19:9, 10, 14) The prophet Habakkuk tell Jehovah how he wor feeling about the suffering and wickedness da wor around him. Jehovah also listen to Habakkuk and he not get vex when Habakkuk wanted to know why he allow wickedness. (Hab. 1:2, 3) Today too, Jehovah can listen to everything we can tell him in our prayer even though he already know what we need. We can follow Jehovah example by listening good-good and showing respect when our brother and sister dem talking. How we can do this one? We mon be willing to listen and we mon not cut the person off. Even if they say something da not correct, or they saying the same thing over and over, we mon not get vex.—Jas. 1:19; Eccl. 7:9.

The sister patient listening to the other sister da feeling discourage until it getting late.

Follow Jehovah example by listening good-good when your brother and sister dem talking (See paragraph 6)

7. How we can know what somebody need?

7 Try to know what the person need. We can’t know what in people heart like Jehovah. So we will only know what other people need if we listen good-good to them when they talking. Don’t feel da you know what your friend need. Maybe what you need da not what the person need. And da because we different from each other. So when your friend talking, try to listen good-good. Be kind to them and ask them question da will help you to know what they really need.—Prov. 20:5.

8. How Jesus comfort Martha and Mary when their brother Lazarus die? (Also see the pictures.)

8 Let talk about how Jesus comfort Martha and Mary when their brother Lazarus die. Two of them wor really feeling bad because their brother Lazarus die. But Jesus not comfort them the same way. After Martha finish talking with Jesus, he tell her about the resurrection and help her to make her faith more strong. But the Bible not say da Jesus talk about the resurrection when Mary wor crying. Instead he cry with Mary and ask the people to show him where place they bury Lazarus. (John 11:20-35) Wetin we can learn from this one? When we want comfort somebody who suffering, we mon try to know what they need instead of trying to comfort everybody the same way.

Collage: The elder visiting two brothers who their wife dem die. 1. The brother crying and the elder put his hand on the brother shoulder. 2. The elder and the older brother looking at some picture dem together. The Elder reading one scripture to him.

To be able to comfort other people, try to know what they need (See paragraph 8)a

9. How we can use the Bible to comfort other people? (Romans 15:4, 5)

9 Use the Bible. When you read scripture to comfort somebody da suffering, you can help them to make their hope in Jehovah promise more strong. (Read Romans 15:4, 5.) Da hope can comfort them and encouragement them more. (Isa. 40:31) How you can find Bible verse dem da can comfort somebody? Some brother and sister dem can write some Bible verse dem down da they can use to comfort other people. You can find some of this Bible verse dem in the book Scriptures for Christian Living under the topic “Comfort.” Pray to Jehovah to help you to use his Word the best way to comfort other people. His spirit can help you to remember scripture dem the time you need it.—John 14:26.

10. If we want comfort somebody, why we mon be kind when we talking?

10 Be kind when you talking. Sometime, we will need to comfort our friend dem by helping them to change the way they thinking about their problem. If you want comfort somebody, think good-good about what you will say. Because you will not want say anything da will discourage the person. (Prov. 12:18) We can learn from the way Jehovah help Elijah. He wor thinking da he wor the only person who wor still serving Jehovah and da he wor not getting good result from the work Jehovah give him to do. But Jehovah wor kind to Elijah and he help him to change the way he wor thinking without telling him da he wor wrong. (1 Ki. 19:15-18) You too can help your brother and sister dem if you kind to them and think good-good about what you will say. When you giving talk or making comment in the meeting, always try to be kind and say things da will encourage the brother and sister dem.

11. Most of the time, wetin our friend dem can need when they suffering? (1 John 3:18)

11 Help your friends with the thing dem they need. Even though we can encourage our friend dem when they suffering, we also need to do something to help them. (Read 1 John 3:18.) Barnabas set good example for us. He sell some of his land and give the money to the apostles so they can help the brother and sister dem who wor poor. (Acts 4:36, 37) Plenty of our brother and sister dem today, following his fine example by helping other brother and sister dem who need help. One sister name Gabriela from Poland wor really feeling bad when heavy rain fall and spoil her house. She say: “I wor really worrying because I not know how I wor coming fix our house. Even my parents who wor living with me wor worrying too. But the brother dem from the congregation dem around us came and fix our house in one day time. Da one really make me to believe da Jehovah using his people to comfort those who suffering.”

12. When you going through problem and you remain faithful to Jehovah, how it can help your brother and sister dem?

12 Continue to be faithful to Jehovah. Paul tell the Thessalonians da the way they remain faithful to Jehovah even though they wor going through problem, really make him happy and it make his faith strong. He knew da all the work he na do to encourage them wor not in vain. (1 Thess. 3:5-8) And Paul knew da if he continue to be faithful to Jehovah, he will be encouraging his brother and sister dem to remain faithful too. (Col. 2:1, 2) Da the same way when we continue to be faithful to Jehovah even though we going through problem, it can really encourage our brother and sister dem. It can convince them da the same way Jehovah help us, he will help them too.

13. Wetin we mon continue to do when we encouraging other people?

13 Continue to be patient. When we encouraging our brother or sister who feeling discourage, maybe they will not feel better right away. But the Bible say da we mon “continue to encourage each other.” Da mean we need to encourage each other over and over. (1 Thess. 5:11) So we need to be patient when we encouraging people who feeling discourage. (1 Thess. 5:14) But wetin we mon do if we need other people to encourage us?

WETIN WE MON DO WHEN WE NEED COMFORT?

14-15. Wetin we mon do when we feeling sad or worry?

14 Pray to Jehovah. When you feeling sad or worry, tell Jehovah da you want him to comfort you. (Ps. 94:19) When you praying, tell him the main thing you worrying about and how you really feeling. (Ps. 62:8) Da true, Jehovah already know how you feeling even before you can pray to him. But when you tell him how you feeling, you showing da you get faith da he love you and he listening to your prayer. And Jehovah will always do something to help you if you get faith in him and pray to him. (Mark 11:24) See how Philippians 4:6, 7 encourage us. It say: “Yor mon always pray to God, and beg him with your whole heart to help yor in everything, and yor mon always tell him thank you. And God will give yor the peace da no human being can understand, to protect your hearts and your thinking.”

15 Ask other people for help. Explain the way you feeling to any mature friend or any elder da you trust. Your brother and sister dem can help you to feel better and even give you what you need. But sometime, they will not know how you feeling and what you need if you not tell them. (Prov. 14:10) So ask them to listen to you when you explaining how you feeling. Or you can ask them to share one scripture or article with you da help them before.

16. Wetin your brother and sister dem will do sometime when they trying to comfort you, but wetin you mon remember?

16 Be patient and forgive your brother and sister dem. When your brother and sister dem comforting you, sometime they will make mistake. For example, sometime they will say or do something da will make you to feel bad. When da one happen, try to be patient with them. (1 Cor. 13:4, 7) And remember what James 3:2 say. It say: “If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man.” So remember da your brother and sister dem want help you. Also remember da “human being heart can really want do the right thing, but the body weak.”—Matt. 26:41.

17. Wetin we mon always try our best to do?

17 Because we living in the last day, all of us need comfort from time to time. And we expect life to get hard more and more and we also expect God enemy dem to continue getting vex. So let try our best to comfort each other more than ever before.
