Ukubonakala okuphawulwe kweyoku-1 Korinte 15:5 kubonakala kuyilokho okubhalwe kuJohane 20:26-29, okwakuhlanganisa uTomase. Nokho, lokhu kubhekisela kubaphostoli njengeqembu futhi kungenzeka kwakuhlanganisa uMathiya.
Lapho exoxa ngovuko, uPawulu wabhala ngokubonakala kukaJesu kubantu ngemva kokuba Evusiwe. Umphostoli wathi uKristu “wabonwa nguKhefase; wayesebonwa ngabayishumi nambili; emva kwalokho wabonwa . . . ngabazalwane abadlula amakhulu ayisihlanu.”—1 Korinte 15:5, 6.
Kulabo ababemlandela njengabafundi, uJesu wakhetha abaphostoli abayi-12. (Mathewu 10:2-5) UJuda Iskariyothe wayengomunye wabayi-12, kodwa waphenduka imbuka, wakhaphela uJesu, wayesezilengisa. (Mathewu 26:20-25; 27:3-10) Ngakho ngesikhathi sokufa nokuvuka kukaJesu, kwakunabaphostoli abayi-11 kuphela abathembekileyo kwabokuqala abayi-12. UJesu wabonakala kubafundi abahlukahlukene phakathi kokuvuka nowenyukela kwakhe ezulwini. Ngemva kwalokho abaphostoli basiqaphela isidingo sokufaka omunye esikhundleni sikaJuda. Ngokuqondisa kwaphezulu, kwakhethwa uMathiya, futhi “wabalwa kanye nabaphostoli abayishumi nanye.”—IzEnzo 1:6-26.
Ngakho abanye baye bamangala ukuthi kungani uPawulu ayengabhala ukuthi uJesu wabonakala ‘kwabayishumi nambili,’ njengoba ngalesosikhathi uJuda wayesefile futhi uMathiya wayengakakhethwa. Ngokuqondile, ngalesosikhathi ‘kwakunabaphostoli abayishumi nanye’ kuphela ababekhethwe kuqala futhi bathunywa uJesu.—Luka 6:13-16.
Kuvamile ukukhuluma ngeqembu lilonke nakuba ilungu elilodwa lingekho. Lapho uJesu ebonakala okokuqala kubafundi ekamelweni elivaliwe, “uTomase, omunye kwabayishumi nambili, . . . wayengekho kubo.” Ezinsukwini eziyisishiyagalombili kamuva wayekhona futhi konke ukungaqiniseki kwakhe kwaqedwa. (Johane 20:19-29) Nakuba ngalesosikhathi uMathiya wayengakakhethwa ukuba athathe indawo kaJuda, wayesenesikhathi eside engumfundi. (IzEnzo 1:21, 22) Njengoba ayesondelene eduze nabaphostoli bokuqala futhi ngokushesha emva kwalokho “wabalwa kanye” nabo, cishe amazwi okukhumbula ukubonakala kukaJesu ‘kwabayishumi nambili’ ayehlanganisa noMathiya.
