SONG 44 A Prayer of the Lowly One

Learn How to Pray to Jehovah From Your Heart

“ I call with my whole heart. Answer me, O Jehovah.”—PS. 119:145.

WHAT THE MAIN POINT?

We will learn from some of Jehovah servant dem prayer they write in the Bible.

1-2. (a) Wetin can make it hard sometime for us to tell Jehovah how we really feeling? (b) How we know da Jehovah can really listen to our prayers?

YOU na notice da sometime when you praying you can be saying the same thing over and over and you can’t tell Jehovah how you really feeling? If da what can happen to you, then da not your one. Because we can be too busy, sometime we can just rush to say our prayers or make it short. Or sometime we can’t feel free to tell Jehovah what really in our heart because we feel that we not qualify to talk with him.

2 The Bible teach us da, Jehovah can’t only look at what all we can say in our prayer but whether it come from our heart. He can listen to “the request of the meek.” (Ps. 10:17) And he can listen good-good to all the thing dem we can say because he really get interest in us.—Ps. 139:1-3.

3. What question dem we coming answer in this article?

3 We coming answer this question dem in this article: Why we mon feel free to pray to Jehovah? How we can pray to Jehovah from our heart? How the prayer dem they write in the Bible can help us to pray from our heart? And when our heart spoil bad way until we not able to tell Jehovah how we feeling, wetin we mon do?

FEEL FREE TO PRAY TO JEHOVAH

4. Wetin can help us to feel free to pray to Jehovah? (Psalm 119:145)

4 When we know da Jehovah da our loyal friend who want the best for us, we can feel free to pray to him and tell him everything da in our heart. The person who write Psalm 119 try to make da kindna friendship with Jehovah. He go through different-different problem dem in his life and some people use to say lie-lie thing dem about him. (Ps. 119:23, 69, 78) And because he wor not perfect, he also use to make mistake. (Ps. 119:5) But with all this one, he wor not scare to tell Jehovah what wor really in his heart.—Read Psalm 119:145.

5. Why we mon not allow anything to stop us from praying to Jehovah? Give example.

5 Jehovah want for people who na make serious mistake to pray to him. (Isa. 55:6, 7) So we mon not allow anything to stop us from praying to him. Let see this example. Imagine da you going somewhere and you lost. You see other people around. You think you will be shame to ask them for help? No. Da the same way when we sin and we not know what to do, we mon feel free and pray to Jehovah.—Ps. 119:25, 176.

HOW WE CAN PRAY FROM OUR HEART?

6-7. How thinking about Jehovah quality dem can help us to tell him what really in our heart? Give example. (Also see the footnote.)

6 When we tell Jehovah everything da in our heart and the way we feeling, it can make us to draw close to him. So wetin can help us to pray to Jehovah from our heart?

7 Think good-good about Jehovah quality dem.a When we think about the good-good quality dem da Jehovah get, it can make it easy for us to tell him what in our heart. (Ps. 145:8, 9, 18) Let look at Kristine example. Her pa use to really treat her bad. Because of da one, it wor hard for her to believe da Jehovah da loving father who she can talk with. She wor also feeling da she wor not important and da Jehovah wor coming stop loving her because of the mistake dem she make. Which of Jehovah quality help her? She say: “I use to think about Jehovah loyal love and this one convince me da he really love me. I know now da he will always help me. Even when I make mistake, he will always be there to help me. When I think about the way Jehovah love me, it can make it easy for me to talk with him about thing dem da can make me happy and thing dem da can make me sad.”

8-9. Why it good to think about what you want say before you pray? Give example.

8 Think about what you want say. Before you start praying, maybe you can ask yourself this question dem: ‘What the main problem dem I going through now-now? I thinking about anybody da I suppose to forgive? I going through any problem da I want Jehovah to help me with?’ (2 Ki. 19:15-19) Let also remember the way Jesus teach us to pray, and think about what we can say to Jehovah about his name, his Kingdom, and his will.—Matt. 6:9, 10.

9 When one sister name Aliska hear da her husband wor having brain cancer and he wor not coming live long, it wor hard for her to pray to Jehovah. She say: “Because I use to be feeling too bad, it wor hard for me to think good-good about what to say when I start praying.” But wetin help her? She say: “Before I start praying, I can think about what I want tell Jehovah so da I can’t just be talking about myself and my husband sickness. And this one na help me for my heart to lay down and be able to pray to Jehovah for different-different things.”

10. Why we mon take our own time when we praying? (Also see the pictures.)

10 Take your own time when you praying. Da true, we can use short time to tell Jehovah what in our heart. But when we really take our own time to pray to Jehovah, we will be able to tell him what really in our heart and how we feeling.b Aliska husband, Elijah, say: “I can try to pray plenty times in the day. And because Jehovah can’t be waiting for me to end my prayer quick-quick, I can take long time to pray to him. And I na get close to Jehovah because I can take my own time to pray to him.” Try this: Find quiet place and time da will allow you to take your own time and pray to Jehovah. Maybe you can even pray loud.

Collage: 1. Before day can break, the brother sitting down and thinking. He get the Bible open and his coffee in his hand. 2. Day na break good-good. And the brother still sitting down. He taking his own time to pray.

Find quiet place and time da will allow you to take your own time and pray to Jehovah (See paragraph 10)

THINK GOOD-GOOD ON SOME PRAYER DEM DA IN THE BIBLE

11. How we can benefit when we think about some of the prayer dem they write in the Bible? (Also see the box “You Understand How They Wor Feeling?”)

11 You can benefit when you think on some thing dem God servants say in their prayers and some song dem they sing da in the Bible. When you learn about how they tell Jehovah what all wor in their heart and the way they wor feeling, it can help you too to tell Jehovah everything da in your heart. You can also learn new-new words da you can use when you praying. And maybe you will even find some prayer dem da talking about the same problem you going through.

You Understand How They Wor Feeling?

God faithful servant dem use to pray to him with their whole heart when they wor in different-different situation. See if something like da na happen to you before.

  • When Jacob wor worrying bad way, he pray to Jehovah. In his prayer, he show da he get faith and he tell Jehovah thank you.—Gen. 32:9-12.

  • When King Solomon wor feeling da he too young and he not able to do the work da God give him, he beg Jehovah to help him.—1 Ki. 3:7-9.

  • After David commit adultery with Bath-sheba, he beg Jehovah to give him “pure heart.”—Ps. 51:9-12.

  • When Jehovah give Mary new assignment, she praise Jehovah.—Luke 1:46-49.

Study project: Read one prayer in the Bible da any of Jehovah faithful servant offer. And ask yourself: ‘Wetin he tell Jehovah and how he say it?’ Then think about how Jehovah answer him. See how you can apply it in your situation.

12. What question dem we can ask ourself when we read and think on any prayer da in the Bible?

12 When you read and think on any prayer da in the Bible, ask yourself: ‘Who say this prayer and what the person wor going through? Da the same thing I going through? Wetin I can learn from it?’ Maybe you can do more research to find the answer to this question dem. And you will not regret it. Let look at some example dem.

13. Wetin we can learn from Hannah? (1 Samuel 1:10, 11) (Also see the picture.)

13 Read 1 Samuel 1:10, 11. Hannah wor going through two main problem when she say this prayer. She wor not able to born and her mate use to make fun out of her. (1 Sam. 1:4-7) If you going through any problem da making life hard for you, wetin you can learn from Hannah? She take her own time to tell Jehovah everything da wor worrying her. And after da she wor not feeling bad again. (1 Sam. 1:12, 18) We ourself too will feel good and our heart will lay down when we “throw [our] burden on Jehovah.” Da mean we tell Jehovah everything da we going through.—Ps. 55:22.

Collage: 1. Elkanah playing with two of his children. Hannah feeling bad and she take her face from there. 2. Peninnah holding her young baby and she smiling. 3. Hannah crying and she praying from her heart. 4. High Priest Eli fold his hand on his chest and he looking at Hannah bad way.

Hannah wor not able to born and her mate always use to make fun out of her. Because of da, Hannah tell Jehovah everything da wor in heart (See paragraph 13)

14. (a) What else we can learn from Hannah example? (b) When we read the Bible and think on it, how it can help us to know wetin to say in our prayers? (Also see the footnote.)

14 After Hannah born Samuel and some time pass, she carry him to High Priest Eli. (1 Sam. 1:24-28) Then she pray with her whole heart and tell Jehovah thank you because she na see how he can protect and take care of his servant dem.c (1 Sam. 2:1, 8, 9) Hannah wor still having problem in her life. But instead of thinking only about her problem, she think more about how Jehovah na bless her. Wetin we can learn from Hannah example? When we focus more on how Jehovah na bless us and still blessing us, we can be able to bear it when we going through problem.

15. Wetin we can learn from Jeremiah example? (Jeremiah 12:1)

15 Read Jeremiah 12:1. Jeremiah wor discourage because he use to see people who wor doing bad things looking like they happy. He wor also discourage because some Israelite dem use to make fun out of him. (Jer. 20:7, 8) We know how he wor feeling because people can do the same thing to us. And we can also see people who can do bad things looking like they enjoying. Even though Jeremiah tell Jehovah da he wor feeling bad about it, he not blame Jehovah. When he see how Jehovah correct His people, he wor having more trust da God will always do the right thing. (Jer. 32:19) We too can pray to Jehovah and tell him how we feeling when people not treat us or other people fair. And we can also tell Jehovah da we convince da he will do something about it the right time.

16. Wetin we can we learn from one Levite prayer? (Psalm 42:1-4) (Also see the pictures.)

16 Read Psalm 42:1-4. Da one Levite who wor not able to go to the temple to worship Jehovah with the other Israelite dem, write this song. The song he write, show how he wor feeling. Some of us who not able to leave our house because we sick or because they put us in jail for our faith, know what he wor going through. In this kindna situation, sometime we can be feeling fine and sometime we can be feeling discourage. But no matter how we feeling, it good to tell Jehovah about it. Like da, it will help us to understand the way we feeling and to know what really important. For example, the Levite get to know da he wor having other thing dem he can do to praise Jehovah. (Ps. 42:5) He also think on how Jehovah wor taking care of him. (Ps. 42:8) So when we pray to God from our heart, it can help us to understand how we feeling, know what really important and see different-different way dem we can bear our problem.

Collage: 1. The Levite in the wilderness and he praying with his whole heart. 2. The brother on bed in the hospital. He get his Bible open on his lap and he praying.

The Levite who write Psalm 42 tell God everything da wor in his heart. When we tell Jehovah everything da in our heart, it can help us to see what really important (See paragraph 16)

17. (a) Wetin we can learn from the prophet Jonah prayer? (Jonah 2:1, 2) (b) Why it good to memorize some Bible verse dem from the book of Psalms when we going through problem? (See the footnote.)

17 Read Jonah 2:1, 2. The prophet Jonah say this prayer the time he wor in the big fish stomach. Even though Jonah not obey Jehovah, he wor convince da Jehovah will listen to his prayer. In Jonah prayer, he use plenty word dem from the book of Psalms.d Maybe he knew this Bible verse dem good-good. So thinking about it convince him da Jehovah will always help him. Da the same way we mon try to memorize some Bible verse dem. Then when we going through problem and we pray to Jehovah, he will help us to remember it and it will comfort us.

CONTINUE TO DRAW CLOSE TO JEHOVAH IN PRAYER

18-19. How Romans 8:26, 27 can encourage us when we not able to tell Jehovah how we really feeling? Give one example.

18 Read Romans 8:26, 27. When we worrying too much, some time it can be hard for us to tell Jehovah how we really feeling. But we always get helper. During time dem like this, God holy spirit can help us. How? Jehovah use his holy spirit to make the Bible writer dem to write plenty of his servant dem prayer in the Bible. And this people face some of the same problem dem da we going through today. So when we not able to tell Jehovah how we really feeling, we can use some of this prayer dem and Jehovah will still listen to us.

19 Da what help one sister from Russia name Helena. They arrest her for praying and reading the Bible. Because the problem wor too much for Helena, it wor hard for her to pray. She say: “I can still remember da when I use to be feeling too bad and not know what to pray for, I can use some prayer dem in the Bible. And Jehovah use to listen to it. This one really comfort me when I wor going through some kindna serious problem.”

20. When we worrying too much, wetin can help us to be focus when we praying?

20 When we worrying too much, it can be hard for us to be focus when we praying. To help us to be focus, we can listen to the audio Bible reading from Psalms. Like King David, we can also write about how we feeling. (Ps. 18, 34, 142; superscriptions.) But this one dem da just suggestion. You not force to do it. (Ps. 141:2) You can do the one da alright for you.

21. Why we mon pray to Jehovah with our whole heart?

21 It can really comfort us to know da Jehovah know the way we feeling before we even tell him. (Ps. 139:4) But he want us to tell him the way we feeling and to trust in him. So feel free to pray to Jehovah. Learn from some prayer dem da they write in the Bible. Pray to Jehovah with your whole heart. When you happy or when you feeling bad, tell him about it. Jehovah will always be there for you because he your real friend!

HOW YOU WILL ANSWER?

SONG 45 The Meditation of My Heart

a Read about “Some of Jehovah’s outstanding qualities” in the book Scriptures for Christian Living under the topic “Jehovah.”

b When you praying in meeting, to convention or assembly, don’t make it too long.

c When Hannah wor praying, she use some word dem da Moses use too. Da mean, she use to take time to think good-good on the Scriptures. (Deut. 4:35; 8:18; 32:4, 39; 1 Sam. 2:2, 6, 7) Plenty years after da, when Mary, Jesus ma wor praising Jehovah, she use almost the same word dem da Hannah use.—Luke 1:46-55.

d For some example, compare what Jonah 2:3-9 say with what Psalm 69:1; 16:10; 30:3; 142:2, 3; 143:4, 5; 18:6; and 3:8 say.
