LESSON 37

Jehovah Talk With Samuel

High Priest Eli wor having two sons who wor serving as priests to the tabernacle. Their name wor Hophni and Phinehas. They wor not obeying Jehovah laws, and they really use to treat people bad. When the Israelite dem use to carry their sacrifice to Jehovah to the tabernacle, Hophni and Phinehas use to take the best part of the meat for theirself. Eli hear about the thing his children dem wor doing, but he not do anything about it. You think Jehovah allow it to continue happening?

Even though Hophni and Phinehas wor older than Samuel, he not follow their example. Jehovah wor happy with Samuel. One night when Samuel wor sleeping, he hear somebody calling his name. He wake up, and run to Eli. Then he say: ‘Yeh me here!’ But Eli say: ‘I not call you. Go back to sleep.’ Then Samuel go back to bed. The same thing happen again. When Samuel hear the voice for the third time, Eli knew straight da Jehovah wor calling Samuel. So he tell Samuel da when he hear the voice again, he mon say: ‘Please talk with me Jehovah, your servant listening.’

So Samuel go back to bed. Then he hear the voice: ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then he say: ‘Please talk with me Jehovah, your servant listening.’ Jehovah tell him say: ‘Tell Eli da I coming punish him and his family. He know da his son dem doing bad-bad things in my tabernacle, but he not doing anything about it.’ The next morning Samuel open the tabernacle door, like the way he can always do it. He wor scare to tell the high priest what Jehovah say. But Eli call him and ask him: ‘My son, wetin Jehovah say? Tell me everything.’ So, Samuel tell Eli everything.

When Samuel wor getting big, Jehovah continue to be with him. All over in Israel, everybody knew da Jehovah na choose Samuel to be prophet and judge.

“Remember, then, your Grand Creator in the days of your youth.”—Ecclesiastes 12:1
